Last year, Ladonna moved into her new apartment after nine years at a shelter.

Can you imagine not having a place of your own for almost a decade? The stress, the fear, the sadness must be unimaginable. But then, to finally have your own apartment? What a relief! Just to be able to go home, close the door, and relax in the safety and security of your one apartment must be amazing.

When asked what her favorite thing about her new place is, Ladonna didn’t miss a beat, exclaiming, “The bed! It is so much softer than the bunk at the shelter!” Her joy is contagious! When we dropped by her place recently, she was sipping a cup of coffee while she set up her new kitchen. Who wouldn’t enjoy that?

You can provide that same joy and excitement, that feeling of safety and security, that place to rebuild a life — for about 82 cents a day.

Become a DRC Home Maker, and make a difference every month in the lives of our neighbors without homes.

When you support Housing First each month, you change lives! Your support transforms hard pavement into soft beds, shabby tents into apartments with locking doors, and uncertainty into security and hope.

Become an inaugural member of the Home Makers Monthly Giving Society, and make your commitment to the other 2,000 or so people like Ladonna currently experiencing homelessness in Tarrant County.
